There is a wide variety of topographies on the Indian peninsula, and there are no shortages of places to explore in this South Asian country as the mercury plummet. In winter, a layer of sparkling white snow has been introduced to several locations in India, while much more enjoy a mix of nice and fresh weather with moderate sunshine. Because winter is nearby, this is our highlight in India this season.

Auli, Uttarakhand

Auli is the ultimate winter destination with snow-draped peaks on each side and abundance of tranquility. Naturally, the main attraction is the abundance of ski resorts. You can also walk to the snowy wilderness–Gurson Bugyal or Kwan Bugyal in pristine Himalayas; visit the artificial lake Auli; ride the Asian cableway for the longest time and enjoy a 360 degree view over the Himalayan snow-capped peaks–Nanda Devi, Hathi Parvat, Kamet, Trishul and Mana Parvat. And if your tea cup is skiing, then the National Ski Championship takes place in Auli in January.

Nanital, Uttarakhand

When the winter starts in the cold reaches of Uttarakhand, go to Nanital, where there are plenty of lakes and plenty of beauty. In the winter, it is cold and Himalayan ranges are surrounded, but it is also contradictory. One advantage is that the climate is not as harsh as far north, so you can enjoy walking out in the snow even in the coldest days. You could go fishing in the park, admire the Snow Viewpoint's snow-covered Himalayan mountains, take a mall path to shop, and get up in the zoo with exotic birds and animals.

Manali, Himachal Pradesh

Manali is a beautiful place all year round, with towering snowy Himalayan peaks and amazing valleys. This hill resort is an entertainment destination, where visitors can delight themselves in walking, zorbing, biking, paragliding and sliding. You can also have a day or two to explore Kasol and Kullu hamlets, or take a trek or mountain rides in Manikara on a warm sulfur bath ideal for the chilly season, on the Pin Parvati pass, Hampta Pass, Chandertal lake or the Great Himalayan National park.

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

Shimla is also known as the Hills Queen and is from December to February a winter series. The crowds flock to freeze, to play on an open air ice rink, to walk between pine trees, and to marvel at the Colonial architecture remains, as this was once British India's summer capital.
